How to get assassin as secondary w/ prophecies character
So yes, very basic question here. First day player...
I chose monk as my primary, and I'm in Ascalon. It appears that I'm only able to select Prophecies professions for my secondary. I guess I have to go to another location to be able to select assassin as my secondary. I did a little searching and all I can find to get to that location involves a chain of at least two (probably more) quests to get to a place called "Lion's gate" and then some other stuff after that. Is there a less involved method than what I am seeing? |

To get assassin as secondary from a prophecies character, you need to be ascended in prophecies (you can search it up on wiki as it probably contains many spoilers). At that point you'll be able to choose another secondary profession.
Once that's done, you need your character to ascend in factions after the Nahpui Quarter mission. Then you'll be able to choose assassin as secondary. Hope this helps! |

In other words, you're not just saying it's impossible to change to assassin until I'm ascended, you're saying it's impossilbe for my secondary to be assassin until I'm ascended, do I have you right? Until I'm ascended, the only secondary professions I can pick are those from Prophecies? |

Yes, you have to get to Cantha first, you can do that by taking a quest in Lion's Arch. Then there is a profession changer in Senji's Corner.

You can only pick from Prophecies if that's the only campaign you own. If you have Factions, Ascend or become Weh No Su and then you can change your secondary profession to an Assassin.

Two ways actually:
1) Ascend in Prophecies and then go to the Great Temple of Balthazar to visit the profession changer. 2) Ascend in Factions and visit either the GTOB trainer or the one in Senji's Corner. |

If I recall, because I just did it, if it's a Prophecies character, you have to ascend in Prophecies. You can do the various quests and missions in Factions or Nightfall, but you can't actually "ascend".
Edit - correction, the problem with Prophecies characters "ascending" in Factions has to do with the 15-point "attribute quests". You still need to do the Prophecies quests to get full attribute points. This has nothing to do with getting Assassin as secondary. Also, I'm not 100% sure, but, I think you need to own Factions/Nightfall as well, in order to use a Factions/Nightfall class as a primary or secondary. Though Factions gets you going into the lvl 20 stuff pretty quick for new players. You might be better off playing in Prophecies a while to get the hang of agro management, skills and enemy AI. Welcome to the game. Have fun. Quote:
A Factions born character can ascend in Proph or Factions. A NF born character can ascend in Proph, Factions or NF (it is achieved upon completion of the Hunted! quest (getting Koss back) for NF born characters only). http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ascend You are correct about needing to own Factions/NF to be able to take on their new classes as primary or secondary professions. |

You are in prophecies so yes, the only secondaries are the ones in there only. However, a character can ascend in all three champaigns but only if you own them to travel there. prop takes a while to ascend so I would say it is better to start in Fractions.

To get sin as a secondary profesion these are the requirements for a prophecy's character:
1: Have factions unlocked on your account (you need to be the owner of the campagin and have added the key to your account). 2: Have finished Augury Rock mission (in prophecy's) OR 2: Have finished Naphui Quarter (in factions) 3: Have talked to he professionchanger in Greath temple of Balthasar and payed him the required money for unlocking asassin. OR 3: Have talked to professionchanger in Senji's corner and payed him the required money for unlocking asassin. |

I don't think anyone has mentioned this specifically yet, but;
For you to be sure - You cannot get any secondary profession until you have ascended. The article is here, Code:

I have Proph., Factions, & NF. I started in Proph., ascended, did the attribute quests, and the quests in Crystal Desert to unlock core secondaries, then traveled to NF. Did the required quests leading to Consulate Docks mission. Did several quests for building the Command Post. At some point building the Command Post, a secondary changer appeared. Paid 500g/profession to unlock Factions/NF professions.

it should be added that you will need to take a different secondary on your prophecies character first---assassin is NOT in prophecies, ONLY factions. At the points mentioned plenty of times above, you will be able to change your secondary--in prophecies to any of the other core professions, in factions to either sin or ritualist--as well as core ones, in nightfall to dervish or paragon as well as the core.
So if you start a prophecies character, assassin will not be available for you as a secondary until you get to factions and ascend (in one of the ways mentioned).

OP, if you're in "pretty" Ascalon, you have no choice but to choose one of the core professions as your secondary. Once you do that, you can leave and go to "ugly" Ascalon. From there, you will have to do several missions or buy a run to get across the mountain range to the west. You'll end up in Lion's Arch. From Lion's Arch, you can take a quest that allows you access to Cantha (if Factions is linked to your account, you'll get a pop-up on screen telling you who to talk to to begin that quest). You do a few quests and a couple of missions in Cantha, and you'll be able to change your secondary to Assassin. That's by far the quickest way to do it.
But don't feel the need to rush. Enjoy the game for what it is. You can only experience it for the first time once. What is it that you're trying to accomplish as Mo/A? Perhaps we can help you come up with a secondary that will be somewhat similar that you can enjoy until you ascend? |
